LeapFrog Epic is Android tablet that has a lot of games and apps aimed for 3-9 years children. The 7-inch tablet is the latest and most advanced tablet from LeapFrog, providing a good parental control and a learning experience for your children that grow with them. It comes with pre-installed apps and wrapped in Kermit-green rubber case for protection from falls. It weights 20.64 ounces and that may be heavy for some small hands.

Just for Me™ learning is a system that personalizes select games to adapt kids as they grow. With LeapSearch™ browser, your kid can surf only approved, kid-appropriate web content and you also can add websites to the allowed websites your kid can access.

Display

The Epic’s screen resolution is 1,024 x 600 provides good color, but with poor details it’s not the best screen, but your kid won’t face a big issue with it.

Software

The LeapFrog Epic runs Android 4.4 KitKat with a heavily modified interface to be kid-friendly. There is a profile for each kid and you can switch between accounts by tapping the top left avatar icon. Kids can style their profile by choosing one of three animation styles and adding moving sticker. You can go to parent mode after entering the four digit passcode after tapping the Family icon in the top right corner of the home screen.

The device comes with 31 installed apps such as Stretchy Monkey 2: Big City Hijinks, Alphabet Stew, earning Friends Preschool Adventures: Ms. Giraffe Explores!, Pet Pad Party, Pet Chat and Coloring with LeapSchool.

Parental Controls

When you set up the tablet you will create the mom and dad profiles and your kid profile, you can move to parent mode after entering the password. Epic allow you to create 3 kids’ profiles. From the settings on parent mode, you can set if the kids can see the LeapFrog App Center store or not, kids can not install apps. You can set time controls and limit the screen time there is a lot of options to restrict the usage of tablets.

Battery

The Epic tablet has a good battery life with 6+ hours.

Performance

1.3-GHz MediaTek MT8127 ARM Cortex A7 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD drive. The Epic become sluggish sometimes and have poor performance.
